The Sooners and the Longhorns took care of business this week, which should setup a top 10 meeting in Dallas. This has all the makings of an instant classic too. Texas looking to prove they are back. Oklahoma looking to win back the Golden Hat. And the winner will become the instant Big 12 favorite for the College Football Playoff. There’s a lot on the line as the intensity of the rivalry has seemingly hit another gear under Tom Herman and Lincoln Riley. Unfortunately though, ESPN’s College GameDay will not be making a return trip for the game this year.
The renowned pre-grame show announced via Twitter that instead of taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the Texas State Fair, they have decided to follow Florida to Louisiana for their matchup with LSU.
It will be the second-straight week GameDay has featured the the Gators as they were in Gainesville this week as Florida defeated Auburn. It will also be the third time the Gators have been featured this year as GameDay was at the August 24th meeting between Florida and Miami.
Although, we probably shouldn’t be surprised by their decision. We saw how infatuated Kirk Herbstreit was with this style of offense LSU was running when they faced Texas in week two. If the Big 12 wants to be featured on GameDay, maybe it should get some of that up-tempo spread offense. Because Herbstreit is right, it seems kind of effective.
To be fair though, the Big 12 has been featured a couple of times this season. They were at the aforementioned LSU-Texas game and then went up to Ames for the first time ever the following week. Still the snub stings a bit as this was probably the Big 12’s best chance at having a conference game featured.
