Week 7 AP Top 25 Keeps Texas Out Of The Top 10

After the Red River Showdown was snubbed by ESPN’s College GameDay, the Longhorns have been snubbed by the AP voters.

The week seven AP poll is out, and it was not kind to the Longhorns. After Oklahoma and Texas won this weekend, most expected the Red River Showdown next week to be a top-10 matchup. That didn’t happen though as Penn State inexplicably jumped Texas after beating a 1-win Purdue team. But are we really going to act surprised to the Big Ten getting love from the voters?

Instead, Texas is once again at 11, while the Sooners also hold their spot at sixth. The only change for the conference is the revolving door that is the third Big 12 team. In week two, Iowa State was the Big 12’s third team in at 25th. However, after losing to Iowa, the Cyclones were out. In week four, TCU broke into the rankings at 25th, but after losing to SMU they were dropped in favor of Kansas State. The Wildcats came in at 24th in the week 5 poll, but were bumped from the rankings the following week by Oklahoma State. The Cowboys were rewarded with a 21st ranking last week, but after falling to Texas Tech, they are out.

Being the third team in for the conference seems to be a curse. Bears fans need to keep their fingers crossed this week as the AP now believes that Baylor is the Big 12’s third best team as they break into the rankings at the 22nd spot.
