A few observations
Texas is in absolute free fall in our power poll after their miserable showing in South Bend. The Horns went from 5th in the preseason rankings, to 8th in this week’s rankings, and are in serious danger of being overtaken by Iowa State for the 9th spot. Just three votes separated those two squads. Think about that for a minute.
None of our panelists had TCU outside the top 2. Baylor could have said the same if it wasn’t for one brave member of our board. Tracy Guest had the courage to be different put the Bears 3rd. Had she placed them 2nd we would have had a dead heat for the number 1 spot after opening week. For the record, Tracy named the Oklahoma Sooners as her 2nd place team.
Kansas, again, failed to score a vote other than last in the poll. I wonder if they will at any point this season. They may get the dubious distinction of wire to wire unanimous last place in the inaugural LGG power poll.
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are battling it out for the 3rd spot. Just one vote separates these long-time fierce rivals. The difference was Matt Turney who placed the Cowboys 6th in the league while OU’s lowest ranking was 5th. I hear you screaming Sooner fans. That yahoo that ranked you 5th was me. Please don’t throw things at me.
