Ranking The Big 12 QB’s After Week One

It’s commonly thought that you can’t win the Big 12 Conference without an elite quarterback. So week by week we’ll be doing a quarterback power ranking. This week’s leader, just may surprise you.

[tps_header][dropcap]T[/dropcap]raditionally, the Big 12 is known to be a “quarterback conference” loaded with accurate and elusive QB’s who can make defensive coordinator’s lives miserable. Week 1 did offer some nice performances, but it certainly delivered some disappointing showings as well. Here’s how the quarterbacks ranked with the first week in the books[/tps_header]

10. Tyrone Swoopes (Texas)

C/ATT YDS TD INT SACK ADJ QBR
7/22 (31.8%) 93 0 0 2 17.7
CAR YDS Long AVG TD FUM
10 17 7 1.7 0 0

Given the intense pressure Tyrone Swoopes was under all night, it may not be fair to list him as number ten out of ten. However, like the rest of the Longhorn squad, Swoopes looked overwhelmed and unprepared. On top of that, you’d be hard-pressed to find a Big 12 list or ranking after week one where there’s not a Longhorn at the bottom of it. The tiny silver lining for Swoopes is that he somehow didn’t account for any turnovers after his offensive line offered very little time to breathe, let alone make plays. Even with that though, Swoopes doesn’t look to be the guy to turn UT around, and my guess is we’ll see Jerrod Heard get the start next weekend. I rarely, if ever, say this after one game but it’s time to panic in Austin.
