Co-Offensive Coordinator Doug Meacham of TCU looks on during a game - USA TODAY Sports - Kevin Jairaj

For most of Monday there’s been speculation that TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham is headed to North Texas to become the next head coach of the Mean Green.

However, according to Mean Green Sports, Meacham is not leaving TCU, and the Mean Green are likely headed in another direction.

“The process has taken several twists and turns since that have led multiple industry sources to believe that Meacham will not take over at UNT.”

It’s quite the twist that could have far-reaching ramifications. One, it would leave North Carolina assistant head coach of offense, Seth Littrell, UNT’s leading candidate, but a little closer to home, the change of direction would could see TCU’s other co-offensive coordinator, Sonny Cumbie, head to Texas.

The Longhorns have targeted Cumbie as their next offensive coordinator, but it was thought that with Meachum headed to Denton, TX, the Horned Frogs would pay to hold onto Cumbie. Should Meaham decide to stay in Fort Worth though, the Horned Frogs might not be as interested in a bidding war.
