Betting The Big 12: Week 6 Point Spreads & Picks

Looking at the spreads and making picks on the Big 12’s week 6 slate.

Really? The football gods couldn’t give us one game last week? We went 0-5, but it’s not like we were terribly wrong, and I did warn that it was a tough week to pick. Texas went after Rudolph like I thought they would, they just weren’t able to get to him. K-State and WVU was a low-scoring, gritty affair like I called, WVU just didn’t cover. Oh well, if “ifs” and “buts” were candy and nuts, or something like that, right?

Hopefully this week is a little better. At least it can’t be worse. Literally, there are only four Big 12 games this weekend. So, there’s that.

TCU at Kansas

Time: SAT, 11:00 am
Watch: ESPNU
Betting Line: TCU -28.5

It is a lot of points on the road, but I like the Horned Frogs to cover. Kansas is coming off a game where they got beat by Texas Tech by 36 points, and Gary Patterson can’t be happy with the way his team played in the loss to OU.

Look for the Frogs to have a big game similar to how they bounced back against Iowa State after the loss to Arkansas. Take TCU and lay the points.

Texas vs Oklahoma

Time: SAT, 11:00 am
Watch: Fox Sports 1
Betting Line: OU -11.5

If anyone tells you they are picking this game with any level of confidence, they’re lying. Texas is changing up who is doing what on defense, and Oklahoma, well one of their biggest stars just called for coach Stoops’ job.

The Sooners are the heavy favorite, but, we’ve seen this episode before and, spoiler alert, Texas ran away with the trophy in a big twist ending.

Will The Boz’s comments of being embarrassed wake something up in the Sooners? Or, will the Longhorns respond with Coach Strong’s job seemingly on the line? All I know for sure is that I can’t wait to watch!

Give me the Horns and the points. As many points as I can get.

Iowa State at Oklahoma State

Time: SAT, 2:30 pm
Watch: ESPNU
Betting Line: OSU -17

Iowa State gave Baylor everything they had and nearly pulled off the upset. Key part of that phrase being “gave everything they had”. Losing on the last play of the game, a game you were handedly winning in the fourth quarter, can suck the life out of a team. I’m not sure the Cyclones have anything left to offer Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys on the other hand just beat Texas by 18 points. If they can side step a letdown after the big win, they should have no problem beating Iowa State by 17.

Texas Tech at Kansas State

Time: SAT, 6:00 pm
Watch: ESPNU
Betting Line: KSU -9

Kliff Kingsbury hasn’t officially ruled out Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes from the game, but if reports are true that it is a grade 2 AC joint strain, then his return this week would be superhuman.

Backup quarterback Nic Shimonek blew the game wide open in an admirable performance, but make no mistake, the Wildcat’s defense is considerably better than the Jayhawks.

Kansas State gave West Virginia everything they wanted by nearly upsetting the Mountaineers in Morgantown. This week they get to play in the friendly confines of Bill Snyder Family Stadium. And, while KSU will bring the defense, Texas Tech, like Moses aimlessly wandering around the desert, is still searching for theirs, yet another year.

Give me K-State minus the 9 in what could be the Wildcat’s coming out party.
