Betting The Big 12: Week 7 Point Spreads & Picks

There’s four Big 12 games this week, let’s take a look at how Vegas feels about the matchups.

We were a late touchdown by Texas Tech away from going 2-2 last week, but why would the college football gods be kind to us now?

If the pick is against your team, don’t worry, that’s probably a good thing for you at this point.

Kansas State at 19 Oklahoma

Time: SAT, 11:00 am
Watch: ESPN
Betting Line: OU -14

The Sooners woke up this morning as an 11-point favorite, and now it has ballooned to 14. The sharp money is on Oklahoma. However, two touchdowns, against the best defense in the conference, following a big win in the Red River Showdown, is just too much to lay.

The Kansas State secondary is going to get tested, and this definitely wouldn’t be the first pick I’ve gotten wrong this season. I believe OU pulls it out at home, but Snyder and company force the Sooners into a tough, gritty affair. I also can’t ignore that the Sooners have covered the spread just once this season as they deal with a myriad of injuries. The pick is KSU plus the points.

20 West Virginia at Texas Tech

Time: SAT, 11:00 am
Watch: FS1
Betting Line: WVU -1

I like West Virginia. Both teams entered the season with similar expectations, but only one has realized them. Tech continues to unlock defenses without actually figuring out how one works.

This is starting to feel like a special year for the Mountaineers, and they definitely have the edge in this one by simply having a defense. Make no mistake though, the Red Raiders are dangerous, and Skyler Howard needs to manage the game. However, I’m not sure his counterpart, Patrick Mahomes, is totally healthy.

If WVU gets the win on the road, they will have to be the favorite to win the conference moving forward. The Pick is WVU giving the point.

Kansas at 11 Baylor

Time: SAT, 2:30 pm
Watch: FS1
Betting Line: BAY -35

That’s a lot of points, but Kansas has covered the spread just twice. So, easy pick right?

No. Baylor has only covered the spread once, themselves, and the only team the Bears have beat by more than 35 points is FCS opponent Northwestern State in week one. The Bears have played some cupcakes, too.

Kansas is also proving to be no cupcake. They may have just one win on the season, but with a little more confidence, they were in position to knock off Texas Tech and TCU in back-to-back weeks. The pick is Kansas and the five touchdowns.

Iowa State at Texas

Time: SAT, 6:00 pm
Watch: LHN
Betting Line: TEX -14

Three weeks ago I would have happily taken Texas and laid the points. However, Texas is now in shambles and the Cyclones look like they are starting to figure out Matt Campbell’s system.

I’m not confident that the Longhorns answer the bell after the deflating loss to Oklahoma last Saturday, and the Cyclones lost to Baylor and Oklahoma State by fewer combined points than they are getting in this one. Give me ISU and the 14 points.
