Look out Big 12, the University of Kansas has decided to get serious about football. $300 million serious. During a KU alumni dinner Wednesday night, athletic director Sheahon Zenger announced that Memorial Stadium will be undergoing a $300 million renovation and upgrade.

If you have been to Memorial Stadium anytime recently, a renovation is beyond due. While Memorial Stadium is a picturesque venue, it is far behind many of the updated stadiums dotting campuses across the country. This renovation will go a long way in helping Kansas “keep up with the Joneses”.

Not much is known about the planned renovation other than the upgrade will include a brand new indoor practice facility. The renovations won’t be made public until September as final renderings have not been decided upon yet. Zenger said they expect to receive renderings over the next three weeks.

Kansas has recently been tearing it up on the recruiting trail as it is now. And, along with the talent that Beaty has already been able to develop, the rest of the Big 12 should start taking notice. It seems that our own Patrick Mayhorn’s prediction that KU will soon be our benign, but supreme, overlords is coming closer to fruition.
