Today was a much-anticipated day for West Virginia fans everywhere. It was expected that Neal Brown would announce Austin Kendall the starter. However, the day got a little more interesting a when reports surfaced that Jarret Doege, the Bowling Green transfer, had his immediate eligibility waiver approved by the NCAA.
At a press conference on Monday afternoon, Brown made it official and stuck with his first transfer quarterback, Austin Kendall.
The Oklahoma transfer beat out Jack Allison and Doege to win the starting job, for now. The only thing guaranteed is Kendall will take the first snaps in week one.
It’s Kendall’s job to lose, but Allison and Doege are definitely ready if he slips up, and Trey Lowe can also get some playing time as the more mobile quarterback..
This has been one of the more interesting quarterback battles in the country, and for now, it has a winner. When West Virginia hosts FCS powerhouse James Madison in week one, the starting quarterback will be Austin Kendall.
