Week 2 Betting Lines For The Big 12 & Making Picks

We got the season off to the right start, but with two Big 12 vs SEC matchups, can we keep it rolling? It is picking time!

We got things off to a good start last week with four wins and a push. Hopefully, we can keep it rolling this week.

Record: 4-0-1

There are only a couple of high-profile games this week, and both are Big 12 vs the SEC matchups. I see them splitting the series, but which way? Let’s get into the picks!

As a reminder, unless the line is close, I won’t be including matchups against FCS opponents. So, this week there will be picks on just six games. Take these picks at your own risk.

West Virginia at Missouri

  • Line: Mizzou -14
  • Over/Under: 62.5

Neither of these teams got off to a hot start last week. West Virginia got the win, but struggled against James Madison. Missouri’s week was even worse with an embarrassing loss to Wyoming. Before you go thinking “well, that settles it. I’ll take the Mountaineers”, as Lee Corso would say, not so fast, my friend.

Missouri received a decent amount of hype going into the season. Last week appears to be an embarrassing fluke. A fluke they would like to atone for this week. West Virginia though, was exactly who we feared they would be against James Madison. Combine that with this one being in Columbia, MO, and I begrudgingly have to take Mizzou and lay the points. Pick: Mizzou -14

Bowling Green at Kansas State

  • Line: KSU -25
  • Over/Under: 58.5

Opposite to the game above, both Bowling Green and Kansas State looked solid in their season openers. Both teams also have something else in common. Neither were expected to make much noise in their perspective conferences. Bowling Green returns just 12 starters from last season, while K-State is rebuilding under coach Chris Klieman.

I don’t like the spread where it’s at. Its a big number. However, the Wildcats impressed me last week, so I’m going to roll the dice. Pick: KSU -25

UTSA at Baylor

  • Line: BU -26
  • Over/Under: 57.5

Keeping with the pattern above, both teams had similar weeks last week with big wins. The Roadrunners ran all over Incarnate Word, while the Bears mauled Stephen F. Austin.

Unfortunately for UTSA, they are about to get a taste of their own medicine. Baylor will be too much, and they win comfortably. Pick: BU -26

Coastal Carolina at Kansas

  • Line: KU -7
  • Over/Under: 53.5

I put blind faith in the Jayhawks last week. I did’t feel good about it, but they rewarded me with a win. So, let’s do it again against Coastal Carolina. If Les Miles is the coach we think he is, this should be a win for Kansas, and I like them to get it by more than a score at home. Pick: KU -7

LSU at Texas

  • Line: LSU -7
  • Over/Under: 57

I’ve been chalk so far, but not in this one. The nation has counted Texas out all week. The Tigers have been disrespectful leading up to the game. Apparently, no one outside of Austin is aware of Herman’s record as an underdog. Despite issues with running back depth, I like Texas to play up to the moment. Let LSU talk now, because it will be the Horns talking after the game. Pick: TEX +7

UTEP at Texas Tech

  • Line: TTU -34.5
  • Over/Under: 65

Texas Tech looked solid in their opener. The David Yost “Hair Raid” offense picked up right where Kingsbury’s offense left off, the defense showed signs of improvement. I expect a big win as UTEP just is not very good. The Red Raiders beat Montana State by 35, and the Bobcats might just be better than the Miners. I’ll lay the points in this one. Pick: TTU -34.5
