Baylor football notched a big win with a 23-21 victory over Iowa State last Saturday. The bigger win may have come on Sunday evening when it was announced Baylor had agreed to a contract extension with head coach Matt Rhule.
Rhule has flirted with the NFL in his previous two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets respectively. This leads to endless speculation that he is not going to be in Waco for long.
The extension will keep Rhule in Waco through the 2027 season. That’s not to say that he could not be enticed to leave for another job however it does put Baylor fans’ minds at ease that he is looking to get out of Waco.
Then the news came today that Baylor has reached an agreement on an extension with AD Mack Rhoades. Rhoades was hired by Baylor in 2016 following the dismissal of Art Briles and Ian McCaw. Baylor extended Rhoades contract for an additional 10 years.
These two announcements absolutely make Baylor fans feel at ease with the direction of the football program and athletic department in general. Mack Rhoades has made great hires in every sport as evidenced by the fact that Baylor Volleyball is ranked number 1 in the nation.
Now Rhoades and especially Rhule can focus on Kansas State on Saturday and Baylor fans can sleep better at night knowing their leadership is committed to Baylor for years to come.
