Last week was rough. Not only did I go 2-4, but I also lost my non-Big 12 pick for the first time this year. You’re going to have bad weeks though. That’s part of making picks. I’m still doing pretty good for the year, though.

Big 12 Record: 18-14-2
Non-Big 12 Record: 5-1
Total Record: 23-15-2 (60%)

Now, I just have to make sense of a conference that does its best to not make sense. To make things worse, the lines this week are terrible for picking. I don’t feel good about any of them. So, this should go well…

If you haven’t been following along on the Ten12 Podcast, we also pick on one non-Big 12 game of our choice each week, which I’m now including my pick here as well.

6 Oklahoma VS 11 Texas

Betting Lines: OKLA -10.5, O/U 77
The Pick: OKLA -10.5

I’m aware of the history. I’m aware of how close this game has been. I’m also aware that games like the 2013 matchup exist though. If there is a game this season where their injuries are going to catch up with them, it’s here. The Sooners are healthy, well, much healthier than the Longhorns, and they just have too much for the Texas secondary to contend with. It’s going to be baptism by fire for those guys today.

Texas Tech AT 22 Baylor

Betting Lines: BAY -10.5, O/U 58
The Pick: BAY -10.5

Has Texas Tech figured it out with Jett Duffey under center? I don’t know. I know he looked good last week, but it’s hard to look bad when you keep getting extra possessions every time you turn around. I’m not sure the Red Raider defense gets those turnovers today in Waco. Baylor gets the win, but will it be by 11…we’ll find out. I’m going to go with the home team to cover. I just don’t feel good about it.

Iowa State AT West Virginia

Betting Lines: ISU -10, O/U 54.5
The Pick: ISU -10

Talk about up and down play, we’ve arrived to Iowa State at West Virginia. The Mountaineers did a phenomenal job of playing up to their competition last week. It just wasn’t enough. I’m not sure they can do that in back-to-back weeks. I also think Iowa State is slowly starting to figure it out, and hey, it’s October with Brock Purdy. Give me the Cyclones to cover.

Non-Big 12 Pick: Duke AT Georgia Tech

Betting Lines: DUKE -16, O/U 48
The Pick: DUKE -16

I lost my first non-Big 12 pick last week. It was bound to happen. This week I’m looking to rebound by going back to the Power 5. Georgia Tech as failed to cover a spread all season, while Duke comes in with a decent run defense. I like the Blue Devils to win comfortably. I took the line at -16 early this week in the podcast before it moved up a couple of points.
