The committee just released their top four teams and as expected, the Sooners are the 4th-ranked team in the country and will go to the 2019 College Football Playoff. Waiting for them in the Peach Bowl will be top-ranked LSU. In the other semifinal matchup at the Fiesta Bowl, Ohio State is two and Clemson is three.
2019 College Football Playoff
- Ohio State
After Utah, who was 5th last week, fell to Oregon on Friday night in the Pac-12 Championship game and LSU dominated Georgia, who was 4th last week, in the SEC Championship game, it was widely assumed that Oklahoma would jump into the last spot.
It’s the first week the Sooners, or any team from the Big 12, has been in the top four all season, but it’s also the only week that matters.
Now, Oklahoma has to go prove that they belong by getting their first ever semifinal win. LSU has looked very good and they are very, very battle-tested. The Tigers are undefeated with five top-10 wins, and they dominated Georgia this week. However, what they don’t have is a win over Jalen Hurts. The Alabama quarterback transfer is undefeated in his career against the Tigers.
Also, as good as LSU has looked, when you look at the other teams in the top four, the purple and gold Tigers might just be the preferred matchup. Ohio State has looked scary good all year with a lethal offense and a complete defense. Clemson is relatively untested this season, but this team might be better than last year’s National Title team.
The Sooners, and their fans, will have roughly three weeks to prepare for the Peach Bowl on December 28th.
