It’s time for picks. Is this Iowa State’s year? Can Texas compete with their SEC opponent? Well, the picks are below.

If you have been listening to the Ten12 Podcast (and you should, it’s a great show), then you know picks have resumed! Each week, Phillip Slavin, Daniel Alexander and myself pick on every Big 12 game with a Vegas line. We also make one non-Big 12 pick as well.

And if all of that were not enough, we’ve upped the ante this year. We are now making underdog of the week picks. Last week, I picked Georgia, a 3-point dog, to get the win against Clemson and the Bulldogs came through. Overall, I took an early lead over Phillip and Daniel at 6-3.

I’m going to start posting my picks here each week, but if you want Daniel’s picks, who is a professional picker, and Phillip’s picks, who is definitely not a professional, then you’re going to have to listen to the podcast.

Kansas AT 17 Coastal Carolina

Betting Lines: CCU -25 | O/U 52
The Pick: CCU -25

Choo Choo! All aboard the Coastal Caroline train. I know this is a Big 12 site, but it’s no secret that I like to bet on the Chanticleers.

This is the third consecutive year these two have faced off. Coastal Carolina won the previous two, and they are about to make it three-straight. We just saw Kansas struggle against a bad FCS team in a game where they were a 3-score favorite.

The Jayhawks failed to cover the spread last week. Coastal covered theirs. Both picks I got right. Add them together and it’s a Chanticleers cover.

Tulsa AT Oklahoma State

Betting Lines: OKST -12 | O/U 51
The Pick: OKST -12

I’m not going to get too worked up about some of the close games last week in the conference; Oklahoma State’s being one of them. Chalk it up to ironing out the kinks (or whatever other cliché you want to use here), but I expect a better effort against Tulsa. Especially if Spencer Sanders gets the start. Speaking of Tulsa, they didn’t exactly look sharp last week. Cowboys get it done at home.

California AT TCU

Betting Lines: TCU -11 | O/U 47.5
The Pick: TCU -11

The Horned Frogs were one of the few teams to go out an handle business last week. Even if it was against a team with a name I’m not quite sure how to pronounce. I don’t want to overreact to last week, but I’m definitely not going to pick a Pac-12 school right now. We all saw the Wildcats manhandle Stanford. I expect the same Big 12-Pac-12 result this week.

10 Iowa AT 9 Iowa State

Betting Lines: ISU -4.5 | O/U 46.5
The Pick: Iowa +4.5

A top-10 rivalry matchup with College GameDay…Ames is gong to be rocking. I really, really want to take the Cyclones here. It’s supposed to be their year. Matt Campbell is due to get the win. However, something is holding me back. I don’t want to over-react to last week, but it’s going to be a long day if the Cyclones can’t get the offense going.

As an Oklahoma State guy, I understand having a team that can compete for everything, but still having to deal with the likes of OU. I’m going to take the Hawkeyes and then it’s a win-win. If Iowa State wins, I will happily take the loss, and if Iowa wins, at least I’ll get the pick. And hey, maybe Iowa State wins by two or three, then it really is a win-win.

15 Texas AT Arkansas

Betting Lines: Texas -6.5 | O/U 56.5
The Pick: Texas -6.5

All the credit to the Longhorns. One of the few teams to not come out a fart around with their competition. They played solid, get it done football. Arkansas also handled their business against Rice last week. If the Longhorns can get Bijan Robinson going and contain Razorback QB KJ Jefferson, they will get the win on Saturday. By more than a score though? It’s going to be close, but I’m going to reward last week’s effort by believing in them this week. Plus, you say you’re ready for the SEC, go prove it.

Non Big 12 Pick: Ball State AT 11 Penn State

Betting Lines: PSU -21.5 | O/U 58
The Pick: PSU -21.5

Well, I can’t lean on Coastal here since they are playing the Jayhawks, but before there was a Coastal Carolina train, there was the Ball State train. But it isn’t 2008 anymore and that train has since derailed. The Cardinals just aren’t good. I like Penn State to get the cover at home.

Upset Pick: 21 Utah AT BYU

Betting Lines: Utah -7 | O/U 49
The Upset: BYU

The newest Big 12 member just took of one Pac-12 member last week. Let’s make it two with a night game in Provo.
